Blackhawk Technical College opened for business this morning without a hitch.

The college canceled day and night classes Thursday after an accident cut power to the college’s main campus, located between Janesville and Beloit.

A construction crew was digging to prepare for installation of a pump for a new well when an excavator “nicked” a power line, said BTC spokesman Len Walker.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m.

The college’s extensive computer system and its phone system were affected and had to be re-set, but damage was limited to two items: A coil in an oven in the culinary program had to be replaced, and an elevator is out of order, Walker said.

Everything else should be running as usual, unless some unknown damage is discovered, Walker said.
