Medical helicopter service answers 100-plus calls
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — Flight for Life has made more than 100 flights from Fond du Lac since opening a base there Aug. 4.
Flight paramedic Neil Plummer says the medical helicopter service made 103 trips through Dec. 24. Plummer and others working from Fond du Lac say they are encouraged by that number.
A Flight for Life spokeswoman has said the Fond du Lac base will need 350 to 375 flights a year to break even. At its current pace, Flight for Life would be at least 50 flights short.
But spokeswoman Claire Rayford says Flight for Life didn't expect the base to break even this year or next. She says the company may hit that mark in two years.
Flight for Life also has helicopters at the Waukesha County Airport and in McHenry, Illinois.

My daughter had to be transported by the Flight for Life team when she had septicemia to Children's Hospital. It started with a small fever, but because of her medical condition, it got very serious very fast.
A BIG Thank you to those who take the risks of flying and helping others get the specialized medical care that they so desperately need.

I know it is a business in the end, but we should be thankful these kind of services are available no matter what the cost.
