Travel update: Snow tapering off this afternoon
Your best bet for travel today might be late afternoon, said Alex Lamers, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sullivan.
Lamers predicts a few more hours of light to moderate snow, tapering off in the mid- to late afternoon. After the snow, the wind will pick up with gusts of up to 20 to 25 mph, continuing until night, Lamers said.
Travel conditions should be best after 3 or 4 p.m., Lamers said.
"The best thing people can do is use caution," he said.
Temperatures will drop tonight, with a predicted low of minus 2 degrees.
Thursday should be better, Lamers said. He predicts sun in the morning, with clouds later in the day and a high of about 20 degrees.
Another round of precipitation should start Thursday night. Light snow could start at 6 or 7 p.m., Lamers said, with the bulk of the "wintery mix" arriving closer to midnight. The storm could bring sleet and freezing rain, changing to all rain early Friday morning.
