Milton thieves target unlocked cars
From the WCLO newsroom:
Thieves in Milton are targeting unlocked cars.
Police Sergeant John Conger says the thieves are taking change and small valuables from vehicles that are left unlocked on the streets, in driveways and occasionally within an unlocked garage. He suspects the thieves are juveniles or young adults, but it's more than a thrill crime at this point. Conger says police are increasing patrols.
Police are also working with the Janesville Area Crimestoppers to offer a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the thieves.
Conger says Milton doesn't currently have a Neighborhood Watch Program, but police hope to organize such a program in spring.

no, we didn't because we didn't realize what had happened until the next morning. it's not that unusual for the dog to bark at the window if someone's walking by, but he was really agitated. actually we yelled at him to shut up :). i looked out the window, but it was late and cold and i didn't go outside.
the following morning my husband found everything pulled out of his glove box and center console, but nothing missing. we can only deduce that the dog heard the truck door open and all of his barking chased the person off right away.
i don't feel any less safe. this town is like mayberry as far as crime goes, with the exception of one or two uber bizarre incidents.

Did you call the cops so they could look for him?

Our dog scared *someone* away before they were able to take anything from our truck in the driveway last week. Things were rifled through, but nothing was missing.
If it wasn't so cold out, I'd love to hide outside and ambush them. Probably the same lame kids who rang our doorbell in the middle of the night half the summer...nothing better to do.
As far as being in Milton vs. from Milton, I doubt if someone's gong to bother driving to Milton just to steal spare change.

These types of crimes do get solved sometimes. It just takes one of them to be stupid enough to brag about it or stupid enough to continue doing it until they are stopped. People lock up your belongings. Just because you live in a small town doesn't mean everyone is good.

This is almost impossible for the police to solve, too. Even if they're there within 30 seconds from the call. The jerk would be gone and hiding somewhere in the dark. The only way to catch these people would be complete luck. But it sounds easy to prevent by just locking your doggone doors. It is worrisome though that they're gettin brave enough to go into garages. Your living room next? Lock house doors too.

Oh, please. That's a bunch of malarky. I have never heard that Milton is any kind of speed trap. Before you say things like that, maybe you should check with city hall over there and see exactly what kind of revenue the police department generates from speeding tickets. You'd probably be shocked at how small of an amount it really is.

It's sad but this town has only 2 officers on duty hard to serve and protect when they have to try and catch speeders to pay the city bills

Most likely they are from Milton due to how the robberies are happening. My friend lives in town, her daughter-in-law came over, sat in car for a second, went inside the house without locking the vehicle as she wasn't staying and within 5min a neighbor called to say someone was in the car. I would say the thieves are lurking in neighborhoods waiting for opportunities like this. Might even live near by. When police where called, they were there within minutes, with a dog even (from Janesville) to track them. They noted this has been happening alot so they are taking each call seriously.

Where does it indicate the theives are "from" Milton? It says the thieves are "in" Milton. For them to steal from people "in" Milton, wouldn't they have to be "in" Milton? Wow, you're ignorant.

They are patrolling? I see them generally parked at the PD.
