Rep. Baldwin named to inaugural post
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The presidential inaugural committee announced that Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., is one of 15 people named honorary co-chairpersons for the inauguration of Barack Obama.
The list includes three former presidents, three U.S. Senators, four members of the House of Representatives, the mayor of the District of Columbia, Gen. Colin Powell and members of the families of Vice-President-elect Joe Biden and President-elect Obama.
The list is meant to reflect Obama's commitment to an inclusive and bipartisan inauguration and includes "prominent Americans from both sides of the aisle who have dedicated their lives to selfless service to their fellow citizens," according to an announcement from Baldwin's office.
Baldwin, a Democrat, represents Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District. She spoke at the Democratic National conventions in 2004 and 2008.

As noted, that "power ranking" is only of interest in context to policy wonks. It really doesn't reflect whether someone is an effective legislator, and the ultimate verdict is the people who rehire her every two years, the voters.
.
In any event, this is a pretty meaningless glamor committee. See the word "honorary"? Every inaugural has something similar.

baldwin was ranked low in 2006. it was in a republican lead house. She ranked low because she did not support what bush and the republican congress were doing. judging by the nov. election, the country voted that republican policies were a bad thing too.

Why Baldwin? Women's rights? Oh, is she a woman? Does Obama need that sort of support? Where are we going?

Your information is out of date. In 2005 Baldwin was ranked 425 out 435 in the Roll Call Power Ranking. Now with heath care being a major issue in congress and Baldwin gaining seniority her ranking is 44, and #2 for the State. For more info see: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/powe...

The article mentions prominent Americans...how is this the case for Baldwin? Wasn't she named one of the worst representatives in the country? Something like number 430 out of 435?
.
Congrats to her.
