From the Rock County Sheriff's Office:

A winter driving alert remains in effect through Monday morning. The National Weather Service is predicting widespread blowing snow and scattered flurries before noon Sunday, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow showers. Increasing clouds and cold, with a high near 4 degrees. Wind chill values between negative 25 and negative 35. Wind speeds are predicted to be 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph.

In addition to the blowing snow and low temperatures, patrol officers from around Rock County are reporting highways and roads are drifting shut due to high winds. Many runoffs and stranded vehicles have been reported, and some locations have proven to be difficult to access.

Yeah, it's the county roads you need to be cautious about. I had to go visit my mother who lives in LaPrairie Township. The turn on Cty. J from Racine had a two-foot snow drift in it that you had to drive over/thru. The county road is also covered in snow drift. So there are random snow drifts over the roads, and much of the roads is hard to see where they end and where the ditch is. Now that it's dark, that only makes it many times more dangerous. Be safe.

I think they are talking about more country/rural roads.

So, can you just dial 511 from a landline or a cell phone? Does it go through the listing of all the roads that are bad? If they're all bad, they don't list them all individually, do they?

The 511 system is really cool to use. I simply tried it the other day and it told me some of the bad roads in the county.

Is there anyway we can get specifics? I'm wondering whether 511 will allow people to login and give information on specific roads. It would be great if I could get someone's opinion about the state of this or that county road.
