Historical items missing in Hudson
HUDSON, Wis. (AP) — A historical society in western Wisconsin says 45 items from its collection are missing.
The books and pamphlets are missing from the History Room at the Hudson Area Joint Library. The room houses hundreds of historical books and documents about Hudson and the surrounding area. Nancy Hawkinson of the St. Croix County Historical Society says officials fear they won’t ever find some of the items again.
It isn’t clear whether the items were stolen or if researchers using the books and documents forgot to return them.
The History Room has a policy that says no one can ever remove items from the collection. The most expensive missing item is probably the first volume of August B. Easton’s „History of the Saint Croix Valley.“ The two-volume set sells for $450.

I feel sorry for those of you who don't see the value of sharing this story. If it can happen in Hudson, it can certainly happen here. It's sad to see our sense of community diminish to such a degree that people don't even recognize the damage that results from thefts such as these. Remember, if you fail to unnderstand history, you're doomed to repeat it!

If it were one painting, it would be news, but since it's a lot of books, there's little interest. Unfortunately small historical libraries like this one are vulnerable to this kind of theft.

Hudson Hawkingson .....I think I remember that name. Ask Bruce Willis if he took the stuff.

Also missing was a large white shroud with the reverse image of a man's face, a 45 1/2 carat blue diamond, and a large, gold covered wooden box with two carved angels on the top...

Does anyone consider this a topic of interest for Janesville? The Star Tribune does not consider it local news, so why would the Janesville Gazette be interested in it? The two volume set sells for $450 or roughly the same price as college textbooks. ;-)
