Sun Prairie leads state in growth
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) — Sun Prairie is Wisconsin’s fastest-growing city with a 24 percent growth rate since 2000.
The Madison suburb has nearly 27,800 residents, and estimates show the population could reach 40,000 by 2030.
Some longtime residents say that’s more than enough. They complain of increased traffic, noise and crime.
The president of a public schools advocacy group says the growth is coming faster than the city can handle. Eileen Stevens says it’s straining the schools.
Dane County Sheriff’s Detective Joel Wagner warns about a growing gang problem.
But Sun Prairie has less crime than the national average and a higher graduation rate than the state average. It also has some of Dane County’s most affordable housing, with an average price of $211,000.

$211,000 is average price! People need to look at Rock County homes. We have some nice houses, great prices and now 5 percent mortgages! $211,000 will buy a very very nice home here in Jnvl. Or you can have a average home in Sun Prairie.

Sounds like the Evansville Syndrome. Madison people move in to leave the high prices and crime of the big city. They drive up real estate prices, overload the town infrastructure (water, sewer, police department, etc.), complain about the lack of big-ciy amenities, and the drug dealers follow their customers (the kids).
.
Welcome to sustainable growth, Sun Prairie.
