Public works director to leave
Jack Messer, Janesville’s director of public works/city engineer, has resigned his position and will return to Kansas.
Messer started work here in May 2005. He had been a civil engineer consultant in Manhattan, Kansas. Messer will work as a consultant Kansas City.
Messer said he is returning to Kansas to be closer to family.
His last day is Jan. 30.

All the best to Jack and his future endeavours. I can not say enough about the class act that he is!!!
What this city ought to look at is maybe the CITY COUNCIL and what kind of political nonsense they bring about as well.....Not one mention from anyone about this glorious city council we have! Does anyone think that this may have anything to do with it? I SURE DO!!!!
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE. Please take the time to attend discussions and vote for the next city council election.

A Class act all the way. Listened to real people and Acted on their concerns or told them why the situation was what it was with no BS. Not a surprise that family matters took precedent over his career, that's Jack. All the best to him.

Roundabouts reduce accidents and improve intersection capacity. Roundabouts, in fact, don't care whether you like them or not.

Here's my two cents on what he'll be remembered by: the roundabouts are horrible and a waste of money. Could have put in a 4-way stop (or yields) but instead we need a roundabout with a good 10-15 random signs warning that you're in a roundabout!

Jack Messer is a quality individual with vision for Janesville's public works program. We were lucky to have him. I wish him well in his next endeavor and only wish armchair critics knew the real man.

School Super, City Manager, Chief of Police, Public Works Dir. They are all bailing due to the budget crisis that will hit when GM folds up the doors.
However, Shieffer and Williams were both at retirement age anyway, so I don't think the economy had anything to do with it.

At the city council's neighborhood listening sessions I always thought he answered questions in a roundabout way. Some would say he has tunnel vision.
