City declares snow emergency for midnight
The city of Janesville has declared a snow emergency starting at midnight today.
A snow emergency means that all vehicles must be removed from city streets and public parking lots until snow plowing operations are complete. To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, move your vehicle before 2 p.m. and keep it off city streets until they have been completely plowed.
If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, vehicles can be parked in one of six downtown municipal parking lots in a designated snow emergency parking stall.
They are:
-- East Wall Street lot at East Wall Street and North Parker Drive
-- Municipal Building lot at West Wall Street and North Jackson Street
-- South High Street lot at West Court Street and South High Street
-- Senior Center lot at St. Lawrence Avenue and Water Street
-- Hedberg Public Library lot on Water Street
-- River/Union Street lot at South River Street and Union Street
Fines for parking on the streets during a snow emergency are $20. Police may begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing operations begin.
Residents can get additional snow emergency information on the city’s Web site at www.ci.janesville.wi.us or by calling (608) 755-SNOW. To report problems or concerns, call 755-3110.

Yeah, good plowing, but next time can you not bust my mail box. It happened last week and my husband had to screw it together to fix it and again today. Now it's busted for good, all in pieces.

be_happy: I agree with you. I think most cities this size use alternate "side-of-the-street" parking during the snow season. I don't have a garage, but at least there is a parking lot at my apartment building.

When I was your age I walked 20 miles to school each way with no shoes and a burlap sack for a coat...

Are you serious? Walk back home, uphill, in the snow uphill back to your house and then uphill back to your vehicle once the snow emergency is over just like how we all got to school every winter day.

Fubar, I hope you can arrange something with a friend/family member and have them follow you to the location, and they can take you home/hang out at their place.

One question I have - They say you can't park in the street and there are designated lots for parking - Well how are you supposed to get home when the closet lot to me is 6 miles away?

You can't park on these streets because they are the only ones the City plows. Go a head and park on any side street you will be safe there.

To the snowplow drivers and helpers- THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. Do the best you can, that is all anybody can ask of you. I'm sure there will be a few upset citizens out there but please note that they are in the minority. STAY WARM IF YOU CAN. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.
