Births at Medford come in twos
MEDFORD, Wis. (AP) — Babies at Medford hospital's birthing center have been coming in twos recently.
Doctors at Memorial Health Center have delivered six sets of twins in the last six months — the latest set just a few weeks ago.
Dr. Amy Wagoner says it's highly unusual for a hospital of Memorial's size to have this many sets of twins in such a short period of time. Two additional mothers carrying twins were seeing doctors at Memorial with the same time frame, but had their babies elsewhere because they were high risk.
The hospital averages about 200 babies a year and usually there are a set or two of twins among them.
Dr. Wagoner says none of the twins' parents used fertility drugs, so the recent surge in twin babies remains a mystery.

A lot of couples are waiting to have children at an older age. The older you are, the greater chance of having twins. If you're older, overweight, have twins run in the mother's side of the family and just went off the pill like I did....all factors contributing to twin pregnancies. Hispanics and African Americans also have a greater chance of having multiples.
