MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin will get $234,700 in a multistate settlement with Mattel, Inc., and Fisher-Price, Inc., over excessive lead paint in the companies' toys.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 2 million Mattel and Fisher-Price toys made in China between August and October 2007. The commission says the toys contained excessive lead in surface paint, in some instances more than 83 times the legal level.

The toy companies agreed Monday to settle an investigation by making a $12 million payment to 39 states and complying with more stringent lead standards.

State Department of Justice officials didn't immediately return a message seeking comment on how they will use Wisconsin's share of the money.

Did they send all those recalled toys back to China or is all that lead sitting in our land fills? I'd spend the money on getting all Chinas lead infested products out of our country.

Yummy Yummy lead paint, 40 years ago we grew up on that diet and lived! The only thing better than lead paint was that candy that strangers always had........

Interesting that the state of Wisconsin gets the money. What about the families, or the kids that had or now have health issues because of the lead paint?

Guess it's better that it goes to our parental state, because the beaucrats are so much wiser, and have our "best" interest in mind...or are we being used.

But then agian there maybe more to the story...?

Well said BigBuick. 234,000 dollars. I'm sure they sold more toys than that in the state of Wisconsin over the years that this went on. So we get $1 or less for our pain and suffering...oh wait the state is broke and that money si gone. Damn Tort lawyers. How much did they get? I bet it was more than 234,000 dollars.

The food pantry's, Healthnet, BadgerCare, SeniorCare, low income housing are all strapped. Every penny should go to those areas. Oh and how about creating a few thousand jobs in Rock County too!!!

Why don't they put it towards badgercare and such, since the lead paint is a health hazzard,. Let the money do some good for the kids and familiesof Wisconsin.
