MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Dangerous wind chills replaced rain in parts of Wisconsin, while some roads to the far north remained impassable.

After a weekend of unseasonably mild temperatures, the bottom dropped out Monday when the mercury was below zero in northern Wisconsin and struggled to make it to double digits to the south.

Strong gusts pushed wind chill temperatures lower and caused drifting snow to the north.

The state Department of Transportation said Highway 2 remained impassable from Ashland to Superior.

Roads elsewhere were ice-covered and hazardous.
