MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say two officers were injured after a motorist dragged them during a traffic stop.

The officers pulled over a vehicle in the 2600 block of South 63rd Street early Sunday morning. Police say one of the officers ordered the driver to shut off the car’s engine, but the driver instead put the vehicle into drive.

One of the officers who had reached for the car’s ignition became entagled and the other officer leaned into the open driver’s side window. Both were dragged.

The second officer was able to free himself, but the driver punched the first officer while driving 30 feet into a snowbank, then 30 feet in reverse into a snowbank, and finally another 30 feet forward. Police say the driver, a Milwaukee man, was arrested after he fled on foot. Police say the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen.

If I get pulled over at night, I automatically turn on my interior lights and turn off the engine. I want the officer to feel as comfortable as I can make him even if I'm going to get a ticket. I have never been pulled over for anything I wasn't doing wrong, and they deserve to feel safe while they're doing their job. I would be willing to remove my car keys and set them on my dash, but am not sure I would want to toss them out or put them on the hood on the OFF chance you get one of those weirdos pretending to be a cop.

Do you think there are MORE bad people, or is it just that we hear about it more because of the additional Internet/cable channel exposure?

the cops should always request, no demand, that the driver throw his keys out of the car or place them on the top of the car.

cardtrader - They did what they're trained to do and the driver should have his head kicked in.

The driver of this vehicle should also be charged with the attempted murder of police officer. It's clear in my mind that he tried whatever he could do in order to shake the officer (and risk the officers life in the process). He clearly had no problem with dragging the officer as far as he did in forward and in reverse.
