Dave Parr has been voted back into office as president of the Janesville public school teachers’ union. Parr said he knows he faces difficult challenges, including the local economy and probable cuts in the school district’s 2009-10 budget.

Parr was co-lead negotiator during the long, contentious negotiations with the school board for the 2007-09 contract.

The membership was divided over whether to approve that contract, resulting in divisions among members that Parr said he hopes to heal.

“We really need to have unity in our membership,” Parr said. “We have tough times in Janesville; we really need to stand together and take care of each other and take care of the kids.”

Parr said he has not yet decided whether he will be on the negotiating team for the next contract. The president appoints the negotiating team.
