From the WCLO newsroom:

A local manufacturer has notified the State Department of Workforce development of planned layoffs.

Stoughton Trailer has notified the state it plans a mass layoff at the facility no sooner than February 2nd.

Vice President of Human Resources at Stoughton Trailer, Patrice Gillespie, informs the DWD the reason for the layoff is the continued downturn in the trailer industry, but the company anticipates the layoffs to be temporary and based on business conditions.

The best day of my life was the day i got laid off in the last round of lay offs from stoughton trailers. In my opinion, the place has gone so far downhill in about the last five years that i think it will never recover. And it's a shame because it used to be a fun and somewhat lucrative place to work.Just one persons opinion who was there a long time and didn't agree with many of the changes they made.

The only thing I miss about having worked for Stoughton Trailers is the paycheck.

All three plants I worked at sucked but the pay made the commute and dirty conditions worth it.

Sorry localboy you did say probably... I guess I'm a little sensitive because I got hurt at work and I'm having to fight to get them to pay. And I don't smoke, only drink on special occasions and don't like fast food. Though I could stand to lose a few pounds after having my children, still have some of my baby fat lol.

stuckhog - I said "probably" which means probable, but not guaranteed. Of course, there are some who just do not have the physical body to withstand egonomic stress, and there are just as many who can attribute their lifestyle to their physical obsticals and problems.

localboy I'm sorry that is a load of crap ANYBODY can get hurt on the job regardless of their physical well being. Hence the word "accident" it isn't something you expect sometimes it just happens. If a cop gets shot on the job is that because he's overweight, smoking, and eating fast food? If a nurse is dealing with a belligerent patient and gets hurt is that their fault? There are too many variables in daily existence for anyone to say its because they are fat, lazy, smokers and drunks.

It is amazing. First people are complaining that companies are shipping work out of the country, then people are complaining about a job that is in the country. Which is it? If I was Stoughton Trailers, ship it to Mexico. Those people won't complain about their job. Most people get hurt from the job because they are probably overweight, and out of shape from eating fast food, smoking too much, and drinking too much. I knew somebody personally that worked there, and he worked there for about 11 years, and rarely complained about it. But then again, he was a hard worker, and in good shape. He quit years ago to work at GM. By the way, if he worked extra hours, he was paid for the extra hours. Some of the posters make it sound as if they were slave labor and were not paid for working extra.

My cousin was the one the plant manager ran over when they were on strike and he was seriously injured and won a hefty law suit. Most people I know who work or have worked there have nothing nice to say about Stoughton trailer.

Of course it wasn't. I got hurt there nearly a year ago and was told that I would never fully recover. They were looking for a way to get rid of me and that was just the means to do it. But it doesn't change what they did.

I've known people who have gotten hurt there and all documentation surrounding the incident has mysteriously disappeared. I've known others who have had their company-paid insurance cancelled after getting hurt at work, thus negating one of the reasons to work there. They'll do anything to get out of paying and failing that, they'll do anything to get out of continuing to pay.

Well dog, try going there and busting your ass all day with equipment that breaks down constantly, get treated like crap by the super, then end up getting hurt and under doc orders no heavy lifting for a week (hence couldnt do the job, but since it was not work related you cant get light duty even with a doctors note) then the day you came back they fired you. I've seen people quit after break on their first day. I've trained new hires to do the same job, only to have them quit within 2 weeks. And theses werent hard jobs to do. Turnover was horrible there. Know way to many people with carpel tunnel from there its sad. Not to mention the number of times the super wont tell you how many trailers need to be done until 1 hr to quitting time and its usually a number thats gonna keep you there OT. Theres no rhyme or reason to it. I remember 2nd shift sidewall tables still being there when we got there at 6am at Evansville. 2nd shift was supposed to get out at 2am. They were still theres at 6 on a REGULAR BASIS. Sometimes for 1 to 2 weeks in a row. Must have a lot of "happy" people on a line where you are there from 3:30pm to 6am.

Why stayed there? Uh needed the money and they have decent health compared to other places.

chelle, I've seen people there that needed to be fired (inept workers) keep their jobs and people that did their jobs well get booted. They dont look at abilities when they pick people to lay off. They go by their precious "occurances" as to who gets laid off. Friend got laid off because he kept catching the flu because people just keep coming to work sick as a dog. And being shoulder to shoulder with these people doesnt help.

I don't think Stoughton trailer workers are the first ones to do something they didn't like for a living. Stoughton pays fairly well for the area so some people stick it out regardless of its misgivings. Anyone who thinks it's so easy to get a replacement job must not be looking at the local classifieds. Unless you want to drive trailers or work in the medical field your options are pretty limited or nonexistent. I would argue that there are very few Americans that do something they enjoy and actually make a good living at it. Most American's do something they can tolerate that pays the bills.

Dogs Rule....You need to ask that question of the state workers who ride/drive to Madcity every day.

Many are such sour-pusses they should not be allowed in public, yet they won't quit.....Go figure!!

As for Stoughton Trailers..no one mentioned thier near customary task of firing/layoff a new hire about 2-3 weeks before thier probationary period is done and benefits start being paid. THEN they have the gall to call them back a couple weeks later, begging them to work again. The catch is your probationary period starts over....

Sometimes the comments people post are better than the comics!!!!

For those who got fired mmmm prolly cuz u deserved it. I heard plenty of stories from supervisors at Stoughton Trailers....unbelievable that people think companies OWE them. Not only that but the work ethic people so many people seem to have these days is nonexisitant...You don't deserve anything until you earn it!

I have to wonder why people who hate their boss or company stay? If you truly hate it and your so qualified to say so, get another job. If you are what you say you are, you should have no problems. Kinda like someone who hates tacos, going to a Mexican restaurant then ordering tacos and bitching about them all night.

I hate to toot my own horn, but there's a video on YouTube about the way I feel about them.

From the way they treat their employees to the way they make their products, it is akin to mass chaos and way too labor intensive. I've not seen a supposedly sophisticated manufacturing process that involved so many mistakes and unmeasured processes.

They fired me because I took the day off when my Mother was dying. That should tell you a lot about the karma debt that is becoming due at that place.

Were a good number of rock county workers when I was there. The best day of my employment at Stoughton trailers was the day I got the boot. Place is a s*** hole. Hurry up and get it done but dont worry too much about quality. After seeing first hand how crappy they are, last thing I want to be next to on the highway is any trailer made by them. That includes the fed ex and ups trailers. Couple of little Eichmann supervisors running around and a pretty clueless one I had at Evansville plant. Stoughton plant wasnt much better, but they gave us a good supervisor then switched back to the idiot.

I love how they blamed other companies making trailers as to their lack of sales. Maybe it could be their salesmen telling customers they can get 1000 units by such and such date and we never got started on the order until 2 weeks before the due date?

Have a whole list of stuff done at the place that shouldnt had even happened at any employers place of business.

But I'm still surprised they are even in business yet.

Thank you Lynda. That is what I thought. Does Stoughton employ a lot of Rock County workers?

Joker: Stoughton is the only one they have now. Broadhead and Evansville are done.

How many people work there? Also, where are their facilities? I can't keep track of who has been laid off there and what facilities are still open.
