LINN TOWNSHIP -- An 88-year-old Linn Township woman was found dead in Geneva Lake on Friday afternoon, police said.

A neighbor found the woman at 1 p.m. in about 3 feet of water, Linn Township Police Chief Dennis Wisniewski said.

The woman was found in front of her lakefront property, he said.

The woman’s cause of death is unknown, Wisniewski said.

No foul play is suspected, he said.

Members of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office dive team helped get the woman’s body out of the water, Undersheriff Kurt Picknell said.

An autopsy will be conducted Saturday, Wisniewski said.

Authorities declined to release the woman’s name because her family hadn’t been notified of her death.

Gilly,
You are a damned tragedy!
I am not even going to waste my time trying to get you to "understand"!

DogWalker, My sensitivity to suicide was not my point, but thank you.
My point was that we, as a whole, shouldn't try to assume that is what happened here. We shouldn't try to make up a story that makes sense to us with little to no information.
It really isn't fair to the family to have to read all the spectulation without any facts. I know, I know, they don't have to come here and read. But come on, if you had a family member die, article in the paper, you would read it all, top to bottom, twice.
Lets show some compassion.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Ok, a 48 year old man committing suicide I understand that people wonder. When my cousin committed suicide, you better believe all of us wondered and thought of why, why, why. Trying to find a reason that we could understand only to figure out there was no reason we would ever "understand". I get it, really. But do we really need to do that here? Please, leave this womans' family some peace. Keep them in your thoughts, your prayers, send them healing vibes. Whatever works for you. But, leave the conjucture out of it.

Perhaps she just wanted to end her life in a place that had provided happiness for her. She could have just walked in a few steps and lay face down in the lake. Just a theory.

The 911 call or the radio dispatch transmission would answer a lot of the questions that everyone has here. Those items are open records and the gazette would be able to obtain them. This is a very sad story with a horrile ending, no matter what the circumstances surrounding it! My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family!

I thought I did read an update on that previous story. It stated the man was struggling with financial issues and that his family had been looking for him since at least the day before he was found.

Doc, He was 48. I also did not find an obituary, but that is the families decision to have one or not. For what ever reasons, either we missed it or they decided not to. Also, they are not free, it is a paid service the gazette provides. His death notice on the other hand was listed, although it was a few days later.

doc0430, there was an obit i wont say where it was printed but there was one, and im sure family and friends were notified anyways, but after they trashed this person in the blog i imagine the gazette made the choice not to print anymore on the story , i didnt read the paper print very close that week so im not sure if they had an update in there or not ,makes you wonder what ever happen to letting people who pass rest in peace, it also makes you wonder why the gazette turns some blogs off from the start while others are left on , they are also very slow at removing comments

emt girl- Don't be so sure we will hear or read more later as the Gazette doesn't always follow up on these things> IE the person that died in Kiwanas pond A couple of weeks ago, A 45 year old male found in his SUV underwater dead! No follow up story no obituary for A 45 year old male no death notice no anything by the paper only things written in the blog, what if he had friends or people that just knew him that would have wanted to give condolonces to the family and attended A funeral to send him off? I can only hope they do better with this one....... Note to the Gazette and the editor- If you don't wanna follow through with these kinds of stories, why do you even give an initial report with such vague and so few details?

Yes, please stop assuming it was dimentia... and asking why the dive team drug her out! That water is FREEZING and her body was not in the easiest spot to retrieve her, from what I hear. I am sure we will hear more about this story later, but there is way more to it than is being let out currently

Gilly, What if it was your mother, your sister, your grandmother? Would you perfer that she be respectfully carried to shore or hooked and dragged? Show a little compassion, please.

i like how someone always has to start rumors about something they know nothing about, dementia i dont recall reading that in this story , and to assume something and label someone you dont know is irresponsible,

Jeesh - what are you, a journalism major now H?I can't tell with all the mispellings in your post. I'm really not intending to criticize you, but give the Gazette a break and maybe try to understand the way the story is written before you complain. She WAS found in Lake Geneva and the other mention about the lakefront property was a QUOTE. How else should the Gazette have written this?

Hannah, no rescue person better be entering the scene without a PFD as no rescurer will be entering the water without the proper thermal and flotation protection. This is a sad story and as you stated is mostly likely dementia related. As far as written weird, this is the Gazette.

Of course the dive team. Regular cop or EMT is not going into freezing water. Dive team has insulated suits. Quit looking for a conspiracy. It isn't weird. Your reading it that way.

Hannah, In the Lake Geneva area a lot of the houses the "fronts" face the lake instead of the street. Just a guess on the dive team maybe because of the temperature they used them because they have the suits to help them stay warm while wet.
