Tip leads Wisconsin to block payments to Janesville, Kenosha
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Payments from the state to Janesville and Kenosha have temporarily been blocked, and the two cities may have to pay back money they've received the past two years.
The action came as the result of an anonymous tip to a lawmaker and the Legislative Audit Bureau.
It alleged the two cities were receiving money from the state Municipal Service Payment program for police services that weren't provided at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, in Kenosha, and the University of Wisconsin-Rock County, in Janesville.
The state Department of Administration says is working with the cities on a repayment plan. The agency says over the past two years Janesville got nearly $81,000 more than it should have and Kenosha got about $355,000 too much.
State Representative Kitty Rhoades from Hudson received the tip. As a member of the budget committee temporarily stopped the payments. That puts nearly $22 million in payments available to towns, villages and cities across the state this year on hold until the issue is resolved.

I don't remember ever seeing any security in the 2 1/2 years I was there.

Add yet another accomplishment to Steve Sheiffer's exemplary legacy. I can't wait to read the next revelation. We are fortunate not to have a Mayor, aren't we?

Proof of corrupt city 'leadership.' Jville's economy is already on an evil downslide, I can feel confident in saying it'll get much worse before it gets any better in this city. How does that make the 'rich' people of Jville feel? Does it bring y'all back to reality? Probably not.
Before you know it, Beloit and the rest of Rock County will be were Jvillites WANT to be rather than making fun of them. Jville is not what people make it out to be. Of course, generally speaking, it's a bunch of 'wanna-be rich people' who really have no clue about the outside world and how it really works.
JMO as I've travelled the world and am looking for jobs far away from here. I'm fed up with the discriminatory crap that continues to go on. For example, a cousin of mine just went to jail over night because he is black. Granted, both he and his white girlfriend weren't in their right minds, but the cops had more than enough proof (including an outstanding warrant) for the arrest of the girlfriend.... no, she's still comfortable at home. And, yes, I am a white, law-abiding resident.

I think that it may have been spent to remodel that break room at city hall.

You mean Janesville was supposed to provide additional police services at UW - Rock County? Hahaha! We can barely get the current police services that we need throughout the whole city! Not faulting the JPD but the city for not budgeting for it. That additional $81,000 could have added an additional 2.25 police officers to our police department (even with those mediocre wages for professionals designated to serve and protect the community)!
Where'd that $81,000 go, Janesville??? It obviously wasn't added to the snow plow budget so where is it? What did we frivolously (sp?) spend it on???
