Lawton asks Midwest to protect jobs in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton is urging Midwest Airlines to protect jobs in Wisconsin.
President-elect Barack Obama also expressed concern in October about Midwest's proposed wage and benefit cuts to its union flight crew.
An arbitrator is expected to rule later this month on a grievance Midwest pilots filed after the company decided to outsource jobs to Republic Airways Holdings.
In a letter dated Dec. 1, Lawton tells chief executive Timothy Hoeksema the airline owes its strong reputation to its employees. She asks him to keep his workers' contributions in mind even as labor negotiations continue during the recession.
A spokesman for the Milwaukee-based airline did not immediately return a message left Friday.
