Union leaders say a 10-hour bargaining session with a federal mediator Saturday failed to settle a dispute that has led to a five-day strike against Waste Management Inc., affecting garbage pickup in southeastern Wisconsin.

Teamsters Local 200 represents 212 workers who went on strike against Waste Management over the failure to reach a contract agreement, just as Harley-Davidson riders by the tens of thousands were arriving for the 105th anniversary celebration of the motorcycle maker.

Waste Management serves thousands of business and residential customers in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine and Kenosha counties.

The union said that after Saturday’s 10-hour session, it made a formal request through the mediator to schedule additional bargaining sessions.

No, I don't have a union job wish I did. Obviously you need to brush up on your history lessons because if it wasn't for the unions we wouldn't have nearly the worker's rights that we do now. A lot of people who fought for unions gave up their lives so you and me could have decent jobs. Maybe you're just a little bitter working at McDonalds flipping burgers. Besides that you'd be working today instead of debating me on this.

My support is for the workers. No one thinks about garbage until there is no one to pick it up.
