Badgers will be on Charter
College football fans can stand up and cheer.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Big Ten Network (BTN) is on the air in Janesville and other communities served by Charter Communications.
Subscribers to Charter’s expanded basic package or Charter HD will be able to watch the Badgers’ match up against Akron this Saturday.
In Janesville, BTN is on channel 50 and on HD channel 795.
Charter announced Wednesday that it had reached a multi-year distribution agreement with BTN, in which Charter will carry the Big Ten Network and related programming throughout the Big Ten territory, including its systems in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Northern Illinois.
“Our engineering team has done an incredible job in a short period of time to install and test the electronic equipment needed to bring BTN to our customers in time for this Saturday’s kick-off,” said Charter Director of Communication John Miller in a news release.
As late at this morning, Miller was saying that the company didn’t want to raise the public’s expectations and was taking it hour by hour.
BTN reached an agreement with Time-Warner cable earlier this month.

Does anyone know if the channel will be available on a QAM tuner tv, and what channel it is (channel 50 did not work as of 3:30 Friday). My dad does not have a digital box.

We switched to DISH a year ago because of the Big Ten Network. We have never been happier with our TV! The picture is sharper than it was with Charter (same TVs) and we enjoy the Big Ten Network, The NFL and a host of other channels that we didn't get with Charter & we pay about the same amount monthly. It is GREAT!!!

I agree with JohnDoe, unless they move to a system where you get to choose your channels yourself, there will always be ones you don't want. We just need to deal with it. Personally I think the a la cart idea would be a great situation.

I suppose if airforceguy got his way, he'd have Charter get rid of FSN so no one could watch the Brewers, along with ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN classic. I don't think he realizes how big of a demand there is for Badgers, Packers, and Brewers games in Wisconsin. Charter and other cable companies learned their lesson last year when thousands of customers switch from cable to dish just to get BTN. Charter had to offer BTN in expanded basic in order to stay competitive with dish prices.

If you don't like charter, get dish. More chanels for less money and a much better PVR. I watched BTN all last year.

Consider this..I know a lot of people that are Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fans that can't go to games or go somewhere to watch the games, so I think getting this deal done is a good thing. Now, Charter needs to sit down with the NFL network and hammer out a deal.

Until they offer "a la carte" (which will never happen) we will all have our favorites and have to put up with the rest.
Like everything else...money talks and BS walks.

I'd prefer to have my public access channels over BTN without having to pay for extra boxes; although, my fiance most strongly disagrees with me! :)

Reports are that the BTN is going to be getting around 70 cents per subscriber, much less than the dollar or more they were asking. Will this make cable rates go up? Probably, and Charter will blame it on BTN.
Other than games, the BTN is awful, and totally irrelevant from about mid march until the start of football season.

We do, of course. But don’t keep adding to the useless channels list. Just because there are 50+ now we should accept 2 more without any type of fight? And these are high priced programming. And there is an obvious place for them in a sport tier package.

airforceguy,
The BTN won't allow the channel to be placed in the sports tier, because there are far fewer viewers compared to the expanded basic tier, which would mean less add revenue. Charter wanted BTN to either lower their price, or allow them to place it on the sports tier and charge customers. It appears they negotiated a lower price. We'll see if Charters raises the price in the near future.

airforceguy...what about the other 50+ channels in the lower tier we don't want?
Who do you think pays for them?

WAY NOT TO GO CHARTER!!! The BTN should have been put in a sport tier package. Now when the price of cable goes up, and it will due to the BTN, everyone will have to pay. Not just the sport fans that want to watch. I sure hope Charter corrects this mistake and moves BTN to a sport tier. And don’t make the same mistake with the NFL Network, place it in a sport tier package right from the start and only raise that package price. Or better yet, make both available for $5 each a month. Pay if you want it and leave the rest of us not paying for it.
Badgerlvr – Your computer crashing 5 times a day is not Charters fault. It is the computers fault or the user of said computer that is causing the crashes.

Way to go Charter. Now if you could only get my computer to not crash 5 times a day...hmm and it's new too.
