Lake dredging could be $1.75 million
The Evansville public works committee recommended wording to the council tonight on an advisory referendum to dredge Lake Leota at a cost of no more than $1.75 million.
The committee unanimously proposed the wording: “Shall the Evansville Common Council approve spending an amount not to exceed $1.75 million in order to restore Lake Leota?”
That dollar amount still is subject to change and is based on city negotiations to place the sediment on adjoining land. Officials will work with engineers at Vierbicher Associates in the coming days to nail down as exact of an amount as they can.
If the $1.75 million price tag changes, it will be presented and discussed at the city council meeting Sept. 9. The council is scheduled to vote on putting the project to referendum as wording for the ballot needs to get to Rock County by Sept. 23.

Thats what we have said all along. That a project this big, is bound to bring up other problems or issues that cause it to above and beyond what their estimate is. It would be foolish to think it won't go above and beyond their estimate.

These projects almost always run into extra costs before they are completed and often make other projects necessary. You will be lucky if the total cost to the city is not something more like 2.5 million.

The other issue is my guess is they will NOT be able to do it for the 1.75 million as they are hoping because it does not sound like some of these farmers want this soil on their property to many concerns. So they will have to pay to take it somewhere else. Why these little details got left to the last minute I don't know. This is something the S.O.L.E. committee should have been working on all these years they have been a group. You would think this group had just got started on this project this year, not five years ago for how little they seem to know.

referendum is the only way to go with this. With having to fix/replace the waste water treatment,at a price tag in the millions we, this town can not afford two big projects on the books at the same time. Our taxes are high enough, and the economy sucks. It just can not be justified at this time. Lake Leota will have to wait.
