MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Supporters of independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader are gathering signatures to get him on the November ballot in Wisconsin.

Nader volunteer Briana Nestler says she and others have gathered more than 1,900 of the 2,000 Nader needs to qualify. She says they hope to gather 4,000 before the Sept. 2 deadline to submit the petition.

Nader won 16,390 votes in 2004 out of nearly 3 million cast statewide, or slightly more than half of one percentage point. He did better in 2000, winning 3.6 percent of the vote.

James Twine of Madison was among those who signed the petition. He says he’s a supporter of Republican John McCain and wants Nader on the ballot to drain votes from Democrat Barack Obama.

It's the third largest party, has been for years (you may have thought it was the Green Party, right?). So yes, it matters.
Personally, what I like about being a Libertarian is that I get to vote for who I actually want to win, and not for "the lesser of two evils" - why would anyone vote for evil? The answer, of course, is that the media over-report the big money parties (R&D) and ignore the others. So it's up to us as voters to do our own research on the better options that are out there. Cheers! \SD/

I dunno, SuperDave, will the Libertarian Party ever start to matter?

Thanks DrTalk for doing the Gazette's job for them (the Gazette of course is not alone in their myopic coverage). Will the media ever even TRY to keep us informed of all the available choices???

So how about telling us the names of the other candidates? I would bet that most people are unaware of the Libertarian alternatives to the big money parties.
