JANESVILLE--The Rock County Board tonight approved a request by the county planning department to apply for two grants to buy out and demolish some houses damaged by flooding along the Rock River.

Up to 80 houses in Beloit, Rock, Janesville, Milton and Fulton townships could be damaged and need to be torn down, planning Director Scott Heinig said.

Staff will apply for federal Hazard Mitigation Program money and Community Development Block Grant money.

A full story will appear in Friday's Janesville Gazette.
