From the WCLO Newsroom:

The City of Janesville and Forward Janesville are working to put economic development ideas from a brainstorming session to work.

Dan Cunningham, Forward Janesville's Vice President of Government Relations, says the session in June generated 400 ideas to improve the business climate in the city.

The ideas are collated into eleven categories: community, downtown, economic development, education, energy, environment, government, labor & workforce, regionalism, tourism and transportation.

The steering committee voted on the top ideas for each category. The city council will later use the data to form the city's new long-range economic development strategy.

The aquatic center is dead, and the council hasn't approved any funding for the skate park, beyond some land.

However, you forgot about the wastewater treatment plant upgrades that will increase your water bill by about $72/year starting in 2010, just in time for those GM layoffs.

FYI, the shelter is still awaiting sufficient funds to begin construction.

(It might have saved that 80-year-old musician who had head stroke at the Fourth of July concert from going to the hospital!)

Housing in Janesville is affordable. Have you looked anyplace else? Janesville has the cheapest housing around.

These are mostly all great ideas. At least people aren't just sitting around and talking--they are actually doing something.

I think developing the riverfront to have a "riverwalk" with shops and maybe even an amplitheater or something nearby for entertainment would be a great idea.

If you develop the riverfront and then restore some of the old victorian houses near the library, you have a nice little tourist attraction. Add some classy decorations for Winter and its a winter time hot spot too.
