Downtown postal center temporarily closes
JANESVILLE—Due to safety and health concerns, the downtown postal customer service center in the Olde Towne Mall, 20 S. Main St., closed at the end of business today.
Suspension of this service is temporary and every effort will be made to return service as soon as possible, said Michael A. Baldocchi, postmaster, in a press release.
The self-service stamp vending machine will remain in operation.
Mail, for post office box customers downtown, will now have to be picked up at the main post office, 1818 Milton Ave., where a specific window, in the lobby, has been dedicated for customer convenience.

Don't lick those stamps until you boil them in water a while.

The problem has been the downtown location was just a sop to the businesses downtown who complained when the Post Office moved to Milton Avenue.
.
They can finally claim the expenses of re-opening plus the decreased number of businesses downtown no longer justify having that operation.
.
The flooding gives them a nice clean break.

Apparently they aren't concerned about the general public though..."The self-service stamp vending machine will remain in operation."
.
It would be nice if they would at least say what the problem is so the public could make an informed decision on whether to go in there or not.
