MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers and others will honor the city’s professional black baseball team and its historic ballpark during a ceremony Monday morning.

The Milwaukee Bears represented the city in the Negro National League during the 1923 season. The Brewers and the Bears played at Athletic Park, which was renamed Borchert Field after Brewers’ owner Otto Borchert in 1927.

The Milwaukee Chicks of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League also played baseball at the park, and several teams played football there.

A historical marker honoring the Bears and the ballpark will be placed beyond the outfield fence at what is now Clinton Rose Park.

Representatives of the Brewers, Bears and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League will attend the 10 a.m. ceremony.
