A motorcyclist running from authorities is dead after a head-on crash with a suspected drunk driver in Dane County.

The car’s driver, a Sun Prairie woman, had significant injuries but is expected to survive. Michael Paul, 33, of DeForest, started speeding away from a Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputy at 2:40 this morning in Windsor Township.

Because Paul had a passenger, the deputy ended the chase. But, moments later, the deputy saw the motorcycle stop and the passenger get off, according to a press release from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

A DeForest police officer picked up the pursuit, but stopped after identifying the driver through information from the passenger. Paul fled the village of DeForest on northbound Highway 51 and ran head-on into a Honda Accord driven by Rachel N. Hron, 22, of Sun Prairie, the release stated.

Hron was arrested for suspected drunk driving. She was transported to University Hospital, Madison, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Paul was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Hannah, some of those guys on bike run because its a game to some of them. Some of the groups that ride around Janesville I really wonder if half of them even have a motorcycle endorsement. So they figure they have a better chance running and getting away instead of just getting a ticket.

It really is sad...Hopefully each of the families can cope with incident. Something small led to something big. My thoughts exactly garprimer, it "...continues". The motorcycle driver was not attempting a serious crime, and it is sad that the choice led to much more. I'm sure that goes for the driver of the car also. My thoughts go out to their loved ones and the survivor of the accident. Hopefully her intoxication was only coincidental and not a contributing factor, Either way, this will be heavy for her to deal with.

Apparently people are learning sooooo much. I mean, no one is drinking and driving, and no one is disrepecting the patrol cars that are out trying to do their job. Boy we are headed in the right direction if this stuff has to keep happening nearly every day it seems. There always seems to be a bar involved too. What will it take. There has been alot of motorcycle chases lately, and they need to stop running.
