Pilot escapes injury after plane crashes
CEDARBURG, Wis. (AP) — A Rhode Island pilot escaped injury on Saturday after his airplane crashed at Covered Bridge Airfield in Ozaukee County.
Pilot James Brennan was attempting to take off when he said a strong cross wind took away his lift, causing the 1946 Erco 415-C to drop rapidly.
The left wing struck a tree branch on a lone oak tree near the end of the grass runway and the two-seat plane then struck the ground. It sustained severe damage and came to rest in an upright position.
The 61-year-old Brennan owned the plane and had been at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh earlier this week.
He was treated and released from care at the scene.
