Chromalox announces closing of two area facilities

Chromalox announced today company restructuring will force it to close its facilities in Orfordville and Albany.

Production will be transitioned to existing manufacturing locations starting in July, according to a company news release. The restructuring decision affects 30 employees in Orfordville and 80 in Albany.

Employees were informed of the closings today and have been given the opportunity to relocate, the release said.

“Our Wisconsin plants have been consistent contributors to our success, so the decision to close these facilities is extremely difficult,” Jorge Hidalgo, chief operating officer, said in a statement. “However, consolidation of our operations is necessary to maintain our competitive advantage as materials costs rise and market pressures increase.”

Chromalox manufactures the world’s largest and broadest line of electric heat and control products, including heating components, immersion heaters, circulation systems, heat transfer systems, boilers, industrial and comfort air heating, heat trace cables, sensors and precision electronic controls.

JohnDoe~
If you would read the entire blog. You would see that I was trying to debate the issue. It never hurts to get some people riled up. I enjoyed it. I don't understand why, when someone has a different opinion that others, some people must resort to name calling? Can you answer that for me? I would assume it is all they can figure out to do, but I am "condesending" is it?

I don't have a dog in this fight. So, as an unbiased observer who just stepped in, I must say that although you might not intend to come across as condescending momof1, the attitude of your posts says otherwise.

Name calling is completely out of line on these blog boards. I am sorry you have had to resort to that. I sure hope it made you feel better. I am very sad for you.

The devil alright!! I am not one of the displaced workers, I work 60 hours a week, so I am not complaining about me. I just know many of the people, there lives and situations, struggles and attitudes. They are the ones who I am concerned with, not me, or you, just the innocent of working in a small town with out any means to make it anywhere else. I to like to debate, as you put it. I for one, am not going to argue with someone who has such a shallow mind that they say they are wanting them to keep positive, you just come to Albany, find a gathering place, and let those 80 people know how to remain positive.

I have by no means acted self righteous. I DO feel for those people. I simply stated that they need to keep a positive attitude. Everyone gets dealt a hand in life and it is what you do with that hand. I also live in a small town and COMMUTE to work. I also have to shop in another town. Positive attitude will get you a lot futher in life than negative and feeling sorry for yourself.

Opinions like *** holes, everyone has one. I did not tell you to hide, I asked for you to have some compassion for the people in Albany and Orfordville. Those jobs did not pay well, and for most of them, this is all they have ever done. I don't think they will be offered early retirement packages, or compensation for the time they have invested with the company. They too have saved what they can, and what I am saying it will not last for them to get through tough times. Surely you are not so cold hearted that you can not see what some people live by frugal means, but when faced with this, they are scared.
Please just have some sympathy for what people are going through in these tough times. These are scary times for them.

Have you ever been to Albany, if you have then you know what the economy is like, there is no industry. Most of the people who live there that are of working age have to travel out of town for employment, to the grocery store, clothing and hardware store. We are lucky we have a gas station/grocery store still running. Another sign of the times. So please, don't think and act to self rightous to those poor people who are now wondering how they will make it.

I have and will continue to help out those around me that need it. But why should I hide because times are bad for some?????? Come on, you really cannot mean that? I should not be proud of myself and who I am? That is not how I was raised, and that is not how I raise my 1 child.
.
I am on here posting, because I feel like debating the issues. But because my opinion is not the majority, I am wrong??? I hardly think so.
.
IrishGirl~ you tell me what is so wrong about having an opinion? OH wait. It is not the same as YOUR opinion, so I must stop bothering the gazette blogs? Guess what, not going to happen.

Mom of 1- again WOW, getting a bit defensive are we? You didn't hear anyone complaining about how terrible there life is, they are stating the facts of the economy and what it is going to do to some lives because of it. NO ONE asked for you to act like you are, choosing to take the high road, do you think that they would like to be able to take the high road? I bet you won't see them brag about how wonderful there life is now. Geez, I didn't know that you had been through tough times before, until you just told everyone. Maybe instead of bragging on the blog's about your moral high ground, you might feel a bit of compassion for those going through lay off's and uncertain futures. Maybe because of your wise choices, you might help some of them out in one way or another.

irishgirl~ How do you know that I haven't been through it before?

As a matter of fact, I have been through having no money. But guess WHAT? It is all about the attitude you take when tough time hit. AT this particular moment, I chose to take the high road. You won't hear me bellyaching on blog boards about how terrible my life it.

Why would you assume that I am a person that sells home products? That is a very very uneducated guess.

I guess some people just want to complain all the time.

mom of 1- WOW, maybe that says part of it "mom of 1", that was your choice, and your choice to be self rightous, however, I wouldn't be tooting my horn to loudly, there is another saying, "What goes around, comes around", you and yours could find your self in the situation of little or no income and be scared. I hope you don't own some type of home show where have to depend on those people who (or use to) attend your shows, guess what, you will be effected by it one way or another. What world do you live in that you don't think you will be hit by this one way or another!!

And, momof1, if you are so certain that you will still have a job....how about you share what your chosen field is. Maybe the 1500+ displaced workers and others who are worried about their jobs and the market across the country can find peace of mind working in your smartly chosen field. :)

PS--momof1--I don't work at GM or for their suppliers. I own my own business in a market that is not one way or another dependent upon GM or any one single employer in any fashion. However, times are rough right now, despite many wearing rose colored glasses. While I have an education and have made smart choices, those two things do not guarantee me anything when it comes to having a livelihood. There are people in nearly every industry in every state of the country who are being laid off. There is no such thing as job security. Get over it.

Just to further let you know of the plant closing in Albany, the total is 80 employee's not 8, and yes Albany is not a huge metropolis, but this is the biggest employer of our quaint small village. It is the only source of income for an employee, with a retired spouse, no benefits, and no income, let' see how far unemployment goes for them, as she is not eligible for Medicare, or retirement, but has been with the company for 25 years.

momof1--I sure hope the axe of ignorance doesn't fall on you next! People, "unknown" included, have every right to be scared. The fact that you are not, concerns be more than the announcements that have been made in this area in the last week. Like "unknown" said...makes you wonder what will be next. And, next doesn't necessarily mean tomorrow....hopefully 6 months from now, momof1, you are able to sit on your soapbox and preach how you've been fiscally smart and saved for and continue to save for a rainy day. Hopefully, momof1, there won't have been any rain to have rained on your parade by then! Jeesh!

How far do you think saving for a rainy day will go for minimum wage employees. The price of gas, groceries, no health insurance will drain that before you can say "Saving for a Rainy Day"

Our State (Wisconsin) to a DEGREE* does look out for it's workers and has had a law for many years in place for just this reason. It is called the "WISCONSIN'S BUSINESS CLOSING/MASS LAYOFF LAW" It requires CERTAIN employers to give a 60 day written notice to employees which may be affected by layoff or a closing...SOME STATES DO NOT DO THIS. IT CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEB: WISCONSIN DEPARTEMNT OF WORKFORCE AND DEVELOPMENT (EQUAL RIGHTS DIVISION) A copy of this law should already be posted at your place of employment by the minimum wage poster.

I agree PB594, "don't shoot the messenger". Unless you live in the Albany area, and know some of the workers and what there situation is, we need the state to help out these people as well as GM workers. Many of the people that work in Albany, this IS there only income, many don't drive, they walk to work, and they are not young people who can go out and look for a job easily. Let's face it, Albany doesn't have the best employment possiblities for them to try and relocate to another job with in the Village. Let's hope that they help the people at this plant as well as the GM workers.

Remember orf_emt_251 the saying "don't shoot the messenger" do you really think that person/persons enjoyed doing what they were told to do. They are or maybe will be in the same boat as the others at some point also.

Are they going to get help from the state as well as the GM employees. For some of the workers here, this is there main source of income, and it is only a fraction of the what the displaced GM worker's make per hour.

How nice of the big wigs to come in and give a 3 minute speech of SOME bad news! They are so insensitive and disrespectful of the employees, many of who have been there a long time!! Great way to add to helping our economy!
