From the WCLO newsroom:

JANESVILLE — Janesville planning officials are happy with a new development going into an old fast food restaurant site.

Senior Planner for the city, Gale Price, says O'Reilly Automotive is building a 7,800 square foot building at 1930 West Court Street, once the old Hardee's Restaurant is torn down.

Price says the restaurant has been closed since 2002 and the property was becoming blighted.

If all goes as planned, Price says the new building could open in about four months.

Taco's and auto stores. How about combine the two? A one stop shop get your taco while replacing your wiper blades. With the cost of fuel I think it's a great idea. Killing two birds with one stone.

It all sounds good, but unless you want to chomp on some lugnuts, chew on a fan belt, and wash it down with a quart of 10-W-30, I'm afraid that you are all going to be out of luck. :-)

Louisianne's in Middleton has everything from jambalaya to crawfish cheesecake. Bourbon Street Grille and Bab's French Quarter Kitchen are also have good cajun food. There are also some good Jamacian food restaurants as well; Jolly Bob's and David's Jamaican Cuisine.

I hate to ask, because I can't stand Madtown, but what is the name of the place you are talking about?

Seabee, you have to go up to Madison to get a great cajun meal. Unfortunately, the people of Janesville wouldn't support a nice cajun restaurant. They only support taco bell, taco johns and del taco type restaurants. Just say NO to fast food! If there was a little more culture and class, nicer restaurants might be more inclined to open up in Janesville.

I do not work at GM but know that just by these last layoffs a lot of people are having troubles working every other week. It is eventually going to trickle down to many businesses hurting and closing. Its not just GM either look at all the people who supply them in this area. People better wake up and support local business or we wont have any left.

True, JohnDoe, it takes a lot to start up a business. And Janesville could do without another chain restaurant. But someone who is thinking along those lines can use this blog for its valuble information. I'm sure a White Castle would do well here.

It's about time that something goes into the old Hardees. White Castle would be nice but so would a vet. clinic. Janesville doesn't really have to many of these. A part store would be nice over there too. Its always nice to have options on where to go and find parts for your car.

It's interesting how so many have grandiose ideas on what should be done with any given property, but yet, don't seem to be willing to expend any of their own capital to make it so.
It's always easier to tell other people how to spend their money.

I'd like a place where you could get fresh gyros sandwiches (not those thaw-n-serve ones with the read-through-thin mechanically sliced meat) and baklava.

Janesville seems to be growing in used car businesses and automotive stores. This city doesn't need more of these places. I wonder how they all stay in business. The old Hardee's building might have made a great Starbucks or Victor Allens coffee house. Or, how about bringing in another bagel store? Panera Bread restaurant? So many other ideas...

Yes, hannah, the frozen White Castles don't cut it, even when you heat them up. I tried to contact White Castle national with no luck -to let them know about the clamor for a White Castle here in Janesville.

Next time you get to the Chicago area have a sack. A sack of ten after closing a bar is the perfect meal. Kenosha has one.

Glad this development is finally happening. An auto parts store is a good fit with the W. Court business mix, too.
.
(Let the people spending the money to open a store decide whether the market will support it. They're likely to know more about that than anybody because ... it's their money.)

Janesville needs as many possible auto parts stores, so the people can purchase parts for their broken down GM vehicles.

so you are more in favor of leaving a building vacant than a business opening up and providing more jobs to the community.
