Whitewater campus getting heat, hot water restored
WHITEWATER, Wis. (AP) - College students in Whitewater who went without heat and hot water in their dorms for about six days are getting the service back. And they're using the experience in a fundraiser to provide safe drinking water to those who don't have it in India.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater says temporary repairs to the steam system allowed hot water to be restored in some residence halls yesterday afternoon and the others last night. Hot water and steam are to be restored to all campus buildings by noon today.
A backup boiler exploded during routine maintenance a week ago, shutting down the steam used for the heating and hot water system throughout the campus. One worker had minor injuries.
Now officials say a number of student groups, including Whitewater Student Government, plan to collect money for the Rotary India Water Trust, which is developing a sustainable water supply for some 650 villages in India with a total of about 1 million people. It costs $300 for each well.
Posters being put up by the groups read: Think not having a hot shower is bad? Try not having clean drinking water.''

Hot showers were available all six of the days the dorms went without it. All a student had to do was go over to the Student Athletic Services building and use the showers there. Men used those in the football team locker room and women those in the softball team's locker room. Other than showering I'm not sure how big an inconvenience lacking hot water was.
Though a technical point hot water is not included in the "tution" you pay. It would be included in the residence hall fees you pay to live in the dorm. Those are separate from "tution."

Are the students who pay tuition going to get a rebate check for the six days they went without hot water?
