Board to consider new CWD regs

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials want to revise hunting regulations this fall in areas with chronic wasting disease.

The Natural Resources Board is expected to vote on the new regulations Wednesday. A citizens group is recommending the changes after reviewing the state’s plan for fighting CWD.

The changes would combine the CWD disease eradication and herd reduction zones into one. Herd reduction goals in each zone within the CWD zone would drop by 20 percent.

Hunting seasons in the CWD zone would follow the season framework used in much of the rest of the state, with archery season stretching from September until January, an antlerless-only season in mid-October, the traditional nine-day season in November and muzzleloader and a late gun season in December.

Earn-a-buck requirements would remain in place throughout the zone.

The gazette staff has seen fit to remove my statement from this morning about the herd numbers and the DNR's plans. Here is the source of those statements. Notice dnr.wi.gov.
The statements were not false, nor blasphemous towards any one.
These figures are why I must watch Bucks run year after year, because there are no doe in my area to shoot.

I agree it is becoming too much of a pain to keep track of all the regulations. I bought 100 acres of land to hunt on 15 yrs ago but now all I do is post it for no hunting and go do my hunting in a neighboring state.

That's OK, my zone is still earn a buck, so once again I can watch the 4 bucks on my land run through. That's good though, the people that tagged the doe I shot after it ran 20 feet from my land and died, will still have fun. I even sent a letter to the DNR that proposed one year on and one year off of earn a buck, and they said our zone had to reduce the herd by 20%. We only lowered it by 19.5, so we have to do it all again. The WDNR website also has a graph that show we will be punished until 2012. If you can't hunt the herd, you can't thin the herd.
