MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle is embarking on a six-day trade mission to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Doyle will leave on Wednesday and return April 28. He says the trade mission is designed to build relationships with business and government officials.

The governor plans to meet with Graham Mackay, the chief executive of SABMiller to discuss the merger of Miller and Coors, while he is in London.

Doyle also has meetings planned with leaders of the Kerry Group, a food technology company in Ireland that has its North American headquarters in Beloit.

He says other meetings are designed to talk about Wisconsin’s leadership in stem cell research and addressing climate change.

Maybe Jim is using some of his "pay to play" money that he gets from road construction contractors picnics etc. to pay for this and is sparing us taxpayers.......probably not.

Tugger – how can you criticize our governor for traveling internationally to make sure us cheeseheads have cold beer, plenty of food and good weather? I’ve heard through the grapevine that his next trip involves the Mideast, Afghanistan, North Korea, and a few African and South American countries so he can get that world peace thing worked out for us.
.
What a great guy. I kick myself for not voting for him.

MR DOYLE! Tell me this business could not have been done via teleconferencing? You have a budget to balance and no business spending our money to go to IRELAND! Lots of state workers are nervous that they may be laid off and you go off to Ireland. If this trip is indeed warranted, I hope we see proof of it, by lots of money pouring into our state and the budget balancing.
