Beloit company to lay off 109 workers
BELOIT – United Industries will lay off 109 workers as the automotive-parts maker transfers manufacturing from Beloit to Tennessee.
In a filing with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, United Industries says the layoffs will begin in mid-July.
The company said last week it would stop manufacturing operations at its Beloit facility but didn’t say how many jobs would be cut. Sales, purchasing and certain support positions will remain in Beloit.
United Industries makes stainless-steel tubing used in automotive and other markets. After the Beloit plant closes, the items made there will be made at an affiliated company in Selmer, Tenn.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin. United Industries was the last company that I worked for before I left Wisconsin behind for good out of the frustration of being under employed and unemployed. After reading through the on-line Janesville Gazette stories about all of the plant lay offs that continue to occur in Southern Wisconsin, I'm really glad that I didn't continue to bang my head against that 'how can I support myself?' wall in Wisconsin. I still love the Packers & Badgers, brats, beer and cheese, but the State of Wisconsin is really looking like a hellhole to me now.

It just shows us again that Wisconsin is anti-business. The taxes are to high here and the businesses can go elsewhere and pay less taxes. Famous footwear is leaving and they have been here for years.

I strongly disagree with the first two responses to this topic. These people are not creating jobs for themselves. When I went through the program less than a year ago the Job Center was understaffed because of unfilled positions due to budget constraints. Because of this, the Job Center employee's wear many different hats, and the Dislocated Worker Program was just one part of their daily work load. I believe Rock County is very fortunate to have or had people like Susan Hanson, Karen, and DeAnn Paulson-Warn at the Job Center. These people are very caring and attentive, and would at times return a phone call to me while they were on their lunch break because they just did not have the time otherwise. You get what you put into the Dislocated worker program, and there is no free ride. I noticed quite a few people who needed extra help because either they lacked marketable skills, education, or just too short on self esteem. Either way, the people at the Job Center are more than willing to help people succeed.

I certainly hope that the Dislocated Workers program will be of much more actual help and be beneficial for the employees of this company who will be affected by this.
Would really be nice if funding set up for these workers was actually used to benefit them and not create jobs for a few for the Dislocated Workers staff.
