Janesville's plan commission votes unanimously to acquire 121 East Court Street, an apartment building considered to be a blighting influence.

The plan commission did not review financial aspects of the acquisition, but determined the project is consistent with established city plans.

Chair Paul Williams says in the future, if the downtown parking plaza goes away, the East Court Street location is one of the sites that could house a parking ramp. The city may apply for a state grant for asbestos removal if demolition of the building goes through. Community Development Director Brad Cantrell says the state grants cycle in October and the city would find out if they receive funding in March.
