Wis. has new toll-free number to report government waste, fraud
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - There's a new toll-free hot line to report government waste, fraud and abuse in Wisconsin.
The Legislative Audit Bureau will answer the hot line and decide whether complaints merit further investigation.
The hot line will be answered by a staff member during regular business hours. After that, messages can be left on a machine.
The number to call is 1-877-372-8317.
The law requires that the caller's identity be kept secret, but callers are encouraged to provide as much information as possible to assist the investigation.
A form available on the Audit Bureau's Web site also can be mailed in for those who don't want to call.

So can I call the hotline and report that the hotline is an example of government waste?

I belive the question here is, will the state do anything about these complaints, or just refer them to the local County DA? In Walworth Co if they are refered back to the DA nothing will get done.

Yeah but they’re implying that something will actually be done with the complaints. My nephew’s mother has been scamming the state for over a year and the social services agency knows but nothing was ever done besides a tiny slap on the wrist.

Government waste: "The hot line will be answered by a staff member during regular business hours." I hope he/she is caught up with his/her other work, because he/she will be busy now that this number is in all of the papers. I hope this does not lead to overtime.
