Barn burns; sheep saved
JOHNSTOWN TOWNSHIP—A passing motorist noticed a metal shed on fire at 4128 County KK in Johnstown about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, alerted the barn’s owner and called 911.
Before firefighters arrived, the farmer was able to move the sheep housed in the metal pole shed to the end away from the flames, preventing the loss of any livestock, the Rock County Sheriff’s Department reported in a press release.
No injuries were reported. No roads were closed.
Personnel from the Milton and Town of Milton fire departments quickly extinguished the fire, which was about five miles east of Janesville.
Damage was estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.
The fire’s cause is thought to have been either a heat lamp or the lamp’s power source, the sheriff’s department reported.
