River rising

Water is rising slightly on the Rock River but dropping on the Sugar River in Rock County, the sheriff’s department reported Friday afternoon.

Deputies are continuing to frequently check water levels in Rock County and report back to shift sergeants.

At 3 p.m. Friday, water levels were:

-- Rock River at Newville: 10.84 feet with flood stage at 10 feet, a slight increase from Thursday.

-- Rock River at Indianford: 14.77 feet with flood stage at 15 feet, a slight increase from Thursday.

-- Rock River at Afton: 10.24 feet with flood stage at 9 feet. a slight increase from Thursday.

Water is at the edge of the road of South River and South Oakley roads and is about two to three from South Christiansen Road. The entrance to Happy Hollow Park is clear, but water covers the boat landing, and water is standing in grassy areas of the park.

-- Sugar River in Avon Township: 3.72 feet with flood stage at 5 feet, a decrease from Thursday. But water is starting to run over Beloit-Newark Road and is at the edge of South Nelson Road.

Free sandbags and sand are available at:

-- Beloit Town Hall, 2871 Afton Road.

-- For Fulton Township, staging is at Finns Tavern at Highway 59 and Newville Road. Sandbags can be picked up at Fulton Town Hall, 2738 W. Fulton Center Drive.

-- For Milton Township, staging is at Mallwood Park at the end of the Road Two East in Mallwood.
