Gap between black, white scores widens
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - New student achievement tests show Wisconsin is off course in educating its black children.
Nationwide testing data on eighth-graders' writing ability shows Wisconsin's black students had the lowest average score in the nation, while the state's students overall did better than the national average and better than the last time the same tests were given 10 years ago.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress is the federal government's testing program, often called The Nation's Report Card.''
Nationally, eighth-grade writing scores increased by six points from 1998 to 2007. In Wisconsin the same scores are up five points overall.

It should not be about Black or white anymore. It should just be about being a student. Either you do well or you don't. Blame the person, not the color.

same school, same teacher, same text book, same homework, and same tests. billions and billions of dollars spent with ZERO results and maybe even worse results than 30 years ago. is it effort? many feel it goes way beyond effort. we need to seperate the students as to their speed of learning. let the eagles fly and the turkeys roost. or, we could do like rockford and just lower the standards for honor roll and honor society so those that are not capable of meeting the present standards can be honored for average work. university of michigan law school thought that would be a good idea. now we have lawyers and doctors that have not met the true standards to be in their profession. but hey, we made THEM feel good about themselves anyway. i for one of many, am tired of beating our heads against the wall and spending all this good money chasing bad money. one answer is school uniforms and make them keep focused on studies and no sports unless you have C's and above in ALL subjects.
