MADISON, Wis. (AP) - An audit says University of Wisconsin schools should do more to protect the vast amount of personal data stored in their computer networks.

The report says some smaller UW campuses do not have computer security officers and recommends they hire one to make sure the issue gets attention.

The report also says some campuses do not have written policies that identify specific types of data that need more protection or outline how to respond to security breaches.

The audit says schools have put considerable efforts into protecting confidential data but doing so is a never-ending process. It says UW campuses will need to pay more attention to the issue because of the increasing number of threats.
