The pool of potential Rock County judges has been winnowed to four.

Nine lawyers applied to fill the post that Judge John Roethe will leave at year’s end. Gov. Jim Doyle will appoint a successor to fill the remainder of Roethe’s six-year term, which ends July 31, 2009.

The selection process narrowed the field to six, then four as of this afternoon:

-- Michael Fitzpatrick, Janesville.

-- Kenneth Forbeck, Beloit.

-- Barbara McCrory, Janesville.

-- Margery Tibbetts, Janesville.
