Identity thieves are gaining access to personal information by calling Walworth County citizens and saying they are wanted for missing jury duty.

The callers, posing as workers from the Walworth County Clerk of Courts office, say the person answering the phone has a warrant out for their arrest because they missed a jury duty assignment. The caller says the warrant can be cleared by providing a name, date of birth, Social Security number and other personal information.

A news release from sheriff’s department and the clerk of courts office warned citizens that neither department calls residents for this purposes. All jury duty notifications are cent by U.S. Mail.

The release also warned citizens not to give out personal identifying information over the phone to any solicitor.
