EVANSVILLE—Construction crews will lay the last brick on East Main Street today, and the street should be open Friday, said project foreman Jason Grant of LPS Pavement Company.

Between today and Friday, sand spread between the bricks needs to set in place. When mixed with water, the sand creates a locking system and hardens, Grant said.

Grant said he has a couple little areas to fix on West Main Street because he wasn’t consulted before that block was opened to traffic. The sand should have been given a couple more days to harden, he said.

The city is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project in mid-November.
