East Court Street scheduled to reopen
JANESVILLE After six months of dust, construction barrels and single-lane traffic, East Court Street is scheduled to open fully Thursday. And workers also have finished work on County E on the northwest side of Janesville, said Mike Payne, assistant engineering manager for the city. Workers spent the summer straightening out the “danger curve” and improving visibility near the railroad crossing. Most of the Court Street work is done, said Kevin Eslick of consulting firm Earth Tech. He said road crews will spend the next two days on small tasks: mortaring manholes, repairing cracked driveways, planting trees and cleaning up. The project, which replaced Court Street from Main Street to about Garfield Avenue, came in under budget at slightly more than $1 million, city officials have said. Federal money covered about 80 percent. Eslick isn’t sure if the road will open in the morning or afternoon. But he has advice for motorists, some of whom drove a little too fast through the construction zone this summer. “It’s a nice, new, beautiful road. Pay attention to the speed limit,” he said. “I’ve got a feeling that Janesville’s finest will be in the area.” The speed limit on East Court Street is 30 mph.
