JANESVILLE—A Janesville woman was being treated for injuries she suffered after her car hit a tree head-on at 5:20 a.m. today at 2645 N. Burdick Road.

The impact pushed the engine compartment into the front seat and pinned the legs of Melissa J. McDermott, 35, said Lt. Kevin Murray of the Janesville Fire Department.

“We had to pop open the driver’s door to get her out,’’ Murray said.

Although her injuries were not life threatening, “we knew right away she had a broken ankle and maybe some chest injuries,’’ Murray said.

McDermott was taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville for treatment.

Although the cause of the accident had not yet been determined, a spokesman from the sheriff’s department said alcohol was not a factor.
