Sensors to be installed on a Rock County bridge
A Rock County bridge is one of the first in the state to receive new sensors.
The state Department of Transportation is installing strain gauges on Wisconsin bridges similar to the one that collapsed in Minneapolis August 1. Rock County's Highway 51 bridge spanning the Rock River is first on the list with the sensors being installed Monday.
The gauges will be in place three months to monitor traffic load and resulting strain on the bridge. DOT engineers say they expect to find the bridges are functioning normally and safely.
