Mirbeau-Hummel development moves ahead
LAKE GENEVA--The Lake Geneva plan commission narrowly approved moving ahead with the proposed Mirbeau-Hummel development on the city's south side.
After two more hours of public comment and nearly three hours of questioning, the plan commission voted 4-3 to rezone the 710 acres from rural holding to planned development and to approve the general development plan for the land.
Plan commission member Fritz Button said the plan as presented allows the city to control how the land is developed over the next couple decades. But plan commission member Don Rutkowksi said this development is only the "tip of the iceberg."
Button, Dennis Lyon, Alan Kupsik and Mayor Sheldon Shepstone voted in favor. Alderman Gary Dunham, Thomas Hartz and Rutkowski voted against.

First of all, I am a nearby non-resident of Lake Geneva who frequents the city for work, shopping and recreation. I do live in Wisconsin, though. I do not have an opinion on the development. That said, if the new member, Mr. Lyon had voted 'No', would there be a call for him to have abstained? Not likely. A truthful response to that question tells us whether or not the critic is a hypocrite. In terms of a corrupt council, I believe it was the Plan Commission who held the meeting and voted, not the council. In addition, it appears that if officials disagree with 'your' opinion, they are labeled corrupt. Corruption is quite a serious charge without any proof. If you have proof, take it to the proper authority (county, state?, I don't know). However, it seems inappropriate that such an important decision is being tainted with baseless hyperbole. The passion exhibited by those against this seems to have morphed into hate, threats and name calling. What a shame.

Mr. Lyon, a new member of the Lake Geneva Planning Commision should have abstained from voting on this. I hope he has read the Master Plan for the City of Lake Geneva and is well versed on it. Also maybe he along with members who voted for this should look at the Mission Statement of The City of Lake Geneva.

The majority of the citizens spoke extremely
against the Mirbeau Hummel development due to
the negative effects on Lake Geneva. These voices were met with deaf ears from an obviously CORRUPT Lake Geneva City council.
Voters will vote & these CORRUPT Politicians
will be gone. This is just the start. Citizens
will be HEARD.
