Elkhorn police are looking for witnesses to a Thanksgiving night accident on the 400-block of Patricia Street.

A flatbed tow truck was at a home attempting to repossess a truck parked in a driveway about 11 p.m. The front of the truck, owned by Jim Olson Collision Center in Woodstock, Ill., was partially in the road, Chief Joel Christensen said.

An oncoming Ford Taurus driven by Jessica A. Hamby, 21, Elkhorn, slammed into the side of the truck, Christensen said. She and her passenger, Paul E. Anderson, 29, Elkhorn, sustained injuries from the collision.

There are disputes over whether or not the tow truck was lighted when putting the repossessed truck on the flatbed, Christensen said.

Flashing yellow lights must be on when a vehicle is being towed, but not necessarily when a tow truck is preparing a vehicle to tow, Christensen said. Having them on is good practice, he said.

“It’s something we need to look into,” Christensen said.

Police are still investigating what, if any, charges will come out of the crash.

James J. Olson, 42, Woodstock, parked the tow truck. Olson was not in the truck’s cab at the time of the crash, Christensen said.

Police also believe Hamby may have consumed alcohol. Officers could smell alcohol at the scene, Christensen said. Blood alcohol level test results were not available.

The sheriff’s department and Wisconsin State Patrol are assisting with accident investigation.

Anyone with information can call the Elkhorn Police Department at (262) 723-2210.

I hardly think there is a "major alcohol epidemic" going on in Walworth County. Alcohol related accidents happen everywhere and anywhere. Also the person was not a "youngster". The driver was a 21 year old woman. Legal age to consume alcohol in this fine state. If she was intoxicated and behind the wheel - no excuses - shame on her! She is lucky no one was killed.

Another walworth county youngster driving under the influence of alcohol! Sheesh! What is it with that part of the area? Sounds like a major alcohol epidemic going on in that area. With the crashes going on, Its funny more people are not getting killed!
