Suit against former Whitewater detective continuing

A defense motion filed Nov. 15 says Steven D. Cvicker should be forced to drop his harassment suit against retired Whitewater detective Larry Meyer after agreeing to an $82,500 settlement.

The parties agreed to the settlement in return for Cvicker dropping his suit, yet Cvicker, 55, has refused to let his attorney send a signed stipulation to the defense, according to a motion filed by Meyer’s attorneys.

Cvicker accused Meyer of harassing him and Hispanic employees at his landscaping supply company, causing the company to lose employees and business.

Meyer’s attorneys believe Cvicker is holding out because the Walworth County District Attorney’s office refused to reduce a felony conviction on Cvicker’s record and because the state Department of Revenue wants $38,268 from the settlement Cvicker owes the state, according to the motion.

“Whatever the reason, (Cvicker) cannot avoid the agreement merely because he may now believe the settlement is insufficient,” the motion reads.

I can only hope that it is not the good citizens of Whitewater who end up picking up the tab for the malfeasance of this mean-spirited, spiteful and rouge former detective.
